GA Year-end Press Conference
December 30th -- Friday

What:
Global Alliance President Betty Yuan and its Executive Council will provide a 2005 year-end organizational project and progress report at a press conference. A number of Global Alliance chapter members in major cities in the U.S., Canada and other countries will also hold similar event with specific additional details of each of their own local activities in 2005.
Where:
Hong Fu Restaurant (20588 Stevens Creek Blvd, Cupertino, CA 95014). When:
12:00 Noon, December 30, 2005 (Friday).
As the year drawn to a close this week, the Global Alliance President and senior officers will provide the international media a full report of its annual project status and progresses around the globe as well as the updates of several on-going programs supported by the Global Alliance members since year 2000 or earlier, such as:

the continuous quarterly financial aids distributed to some of the surviving victims of Japan's wartime military sexual slaves, a.k.a. "Comfort Women";
the continuing and growing scholarship program that supports research projects in a number of Chinese university graduate schools;
a special financial assistance, initiated and implemented by BC-Alpha and APTSJW, has provided to a number of victims or next of kin of the survivors of the Kajima Incident who have turned down the settlement money arranged by Japanese attorney Nimii without their expressed consent;
the status and the need for continuing support of legislation and litigation in the United States and elsewhere;
The press conference will highlight major program and project achievements, collectively contributed by many Global Alliance member organizations, even though the annual report to be distributed at press conference will contain far more and rather rich contents in a very substantial volume of document, including:

the extensive "grassroots" commemoration activities throughout the world to mark the 60th anniversary of the Victory over Japan Day, from China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the U.S., Canada, to Japan and beyond;

the worldwide signature drive drawn more than 42 million supporters to sign a petition to the United Nations calling on the world body to take into account of Japan's reluctance to officially acknowledge and accept its war responsibilities when and if it considers Japan's bid for a permanent seat in the U.N. Security Council;
conferences, protest rallies and media events at the United Nations that were widely reported by major news media and over a thousand websites, including 1,400 cyber sites in China alone;

the impact of an advertisement placed in the New York Times, on the opening day of the U.N. 2005 Session, raising issues and concerns as the worldwide petition addresses;
a series of international media campaign (in the U.S., China and throughout the East and West) in 2005 to raise awareness of same issues;

Note that the year-end report will summarize the large scope of the coordinated efforts by the Global Alliance members and affiliated strategic partners in many countries. Please make certain to be at the press conference to receive this comprehensive report.
